OUR ROOMS

We have a number of rooms catering for different age groups and activities.

BABIES

Green Room - Staff Ratio 1:3

The Baby room offers a friendly relaxed family atmosphere for children, from 6 weeks to 2 years. The babies can explore and learn through one to one activities with staff and play equipment provided. Stimulation at a young age encourages happy, inquisitive babies to become confident toddlers ready to grasp the concepts of learning skills for later on in life. The babies are encouraged to join in simple activities, which improve their mental and social awareness.

Babies and Toddlers are regularly taken out for walks in the village.

We believe in the development of the whole child. We recognise that each child is different and that they should be allowed to develop at their own pace.

RED ROOM

Red Room - Staff Ratio 1:4

The Red room offers a friendly relaxed family atmosphere for children, from 2 years to 3 years to develop. These children have a wide variety of activities to stimulate them, ranging from construction and imaginative toys to messy play and a quiet area to look at books. Each day the children enjoy an activity in small groups.

They also have the freedom to move to each area of their choice. Children are encouraged to learn basic skills to develop their numeracy and literacy.

The children also enjoy story time and a variety of musical activities.

We believe in the development of the whole child. We recognise that each child is different and that they should be allowed to develop at their own pace.

We have an extensive outdoor space for Red Room to use, including a craft shed, book shed, balancing, water and sand and a mud kitchen.

PRE-SCHOOL

Blue Room - Staff Ratio 1:8

The Pre-school children are aged 3 years to 4 years. We follow the Curriculum for Non-Maintained Nursery Settings and are advised by EAS. We encourage imaginative and construction play, as well as the developmental pathways belonging, communication, physical, well-being and exploration. The children also have opportunities to explore sand, water, play dough, clay etc.

Belonging

This area focuses on how children recognise who they are and how they fit in with the world around them. Emphasis is placed on the importance of personal, social, moral and spiritual development, for example personal values and understanding of self and others. This pathway helps children understand their routines, follow boundaries and recognise similarities and differences.

Communication

This pathway helps children to take notice of those around them, and develop their attention and listening. It also encompasses creative development, and how children communicate through music, dance, art and craft. We have an entire “art studio” lovingly known as Yellow Room, as well as a craft shed in our field so the fun can continue outdoors!

Exploration

Children’s interests are developed through exploration. This pathway helps children discover, understand how things work, use their senses, and experiment. We have plenty of opportunities to explore at nursery, from loose parts, to science experiments, food play and construction. We have an amazing outdoor space called the Field. We have a huge allotment that the children maintain and grow in, a nature shed that overlooks Mathern lakes, a huge sandpit, a woodworking shed and much, much more!

Physical

The focus in this area is on the child developing control over their own body, having an awareness of space and being competent with manipulative skills. Our giant loose parts make a perfect obstacle course!

Well-Being

This pathway focused on the holistic child, how they recognise and respond to their feelings and regulate their responses. It helps them to take care of their physical and mental well-being, and build relationships with the people around them.

Welsh

The aim is for the children to learn the basics within the Welsh language.

Our aim is to provide a good foundation of knowledge in preparation for entry to primary school.
